stitching outside.

Well the kitty t.v. is very busy the warmer weather has birds, chipmunks, squirrels and Meara is vigilante. 

I found that it has been so lovely gardening outside I have now started a new quilting project that I will work on outside. This was a Kim Diehl Whatnot project I pieced together last year

I loved sitting out there viewing the work I have done and have great sunlight to see the marking and stitches. 

Someone asked me what I marked my quilt with and I was introduced to Washable Crayola markers fine tip by Rosemarie and I love using them. I have not had issues washing the markings out either. 

The one issue is that the dollar store used to carry them but now I see the stock has changed and I don't see the fine tips anymore.

Well, the quilt you see, yeeeesssss under the kitty. I was prepping this quilt for my first big stitch attempt. You can see it is busy (well look around the kitty) so the this is the perfect big stitch project project to start with.

 I made this long ago when my Gram passed. Her name was Ruby the quilt has alot of "ruby" in it. I am going to be quilting with valdani variegated thread. 

Kiera was like a fly to the flame with this quilt, she is still following the 3 second rule when I quilt comes out she is on it. The sewing machine is right beside her here, I sewed for a couple of hours and she did not budge just stretched out a little bit more. Silly little girl 

 I also could not resist this absolutely stunning Simple Whatnot project that is with Border Creek Station I have to say it is so personable there was a precious note of thanks on the back of the card an extra pair of cute scissors. There is even a new kitty toy (the raffia) 

I have to be honest I got this on Monday and i have 6 blocks done already! 

I am loving that I have time to clean house do gardening and quilt. Freedom for me! 

Little quilts

I have been getting these wonderful designs from Marcus on Mondays for little quilts and really enjoying the process of making them. 

I have this green one done and it is on its way to Australia for the last Doll swap that was on Instagram.

I made this for St Patrick's celebration I hope the person that gets it likes it. 

This sweet heart above was the second one I made I loved the fabric and thought it was perfect for the celebration of Valentines

Everyone knows I am a chihuahua fanatic and that is what I put in the back with the quarter corners on the back for hanging. 

I used the teacup pattern for the quilting I was on square short and found a bunny that wanted to pop in and say hello

this was the first one I made and I quilted Furrows on the back I found this cute SBS fabric and decided she was working in the fields 

Its amazing how our fabrics really do keep our imagination so alive.

something to show

I started this sew a long with Border Creek station using the one pieced block but changed it up to add some applique in I had made this block before only a larger size on another sew along. I am working on my corners as you can see below

I also commissioned a friend to embroider a little mug rug for my Honey I love it and so does he 

I am working on a quilt to celebrate hope (green) St Patrick's and just plain hand quilting. I decided on the baptiste fan for the quilting but in my mind they are rainbows looking for that pot of gold.

I finished this little quilt a couple of weeks ago as well machine pieced and hand quilted. the patterns were free on line by Pam Buda. I have fallen for her little quilt patterns

Well back to stitching I am trying to finish some projects so that I can feel that gardening is getting in the way.

doll quilt finish, porch views

 Well I have a finish! this little doll quilt will be on its merry way to the person that was selected to be my swap partner. I was lucky enough to have some time on my porch and view the gardens with my trusty pal beside me on our new cushions. Ted loved it out there it was a perfect 4 days of weather to do some gardening then sit on the porch and watch our Monarchs, Swallow butter flies and bees start their harvesting.
The backing of the quilt is a great addition since it is part of what the theme was about " A token of Friendship"

 I had to make a decision on the quilting since the heart/tulip left too much space so I quilted the lines and I am pleased how it turned out.

 Teddy with chin in paws as he watches the world go by and me working in the gardens he did not want to leave his perch. I see that the cushion has passed, we were lucky to get these cushions "free" my canadian tire money paid for them!

 My hibiscus Mallows are all flowering and they look fabulous so much I had to get another one, there was alot of splitting and replanting and I am not done yet. I am hoping for more time in the following weeks. I had to work in the backyard for a while and as you can see there is a spot under the Oakleaf Hydrangea, it got so big this year with loads of blooms.

 Love this red Mallow it is so rich and really shows up from the road, lots of people are slowing down when they either drive by or walk by this is a great way to control traffic fill your garden with brilliant easy care plants so that everyone thinks you have a gardeners thumb.

 The Alice Oakleaf turns this rustic rusty brown soon the stems will be orange and they will peel I love how it transforms into its fall majestic beauty.

Fall is approaching and soon it will be quilt show/ quilting weather I soo can't wait!!

The mini madness continues..

the quilt above is it a mini or is it a full size.. I am going mini crazy this is a Sho-fly pattern.. I have called it Sho-Fly at my window.. the yellow single irish chain is the sun shining through.. I just love that daisy boarder and know I am almost at the very end of the scraps of that one.. I will miss playing with it..

the one above is Anvil pattern and this is taken from a quilt circa 1900 I tried to be as scrappy as possible and am hand quilting it.. I know when will I post something finished!! this one is almost done I am going to put mini prairie points won't it just be darling!!

this one above took a little work.. about a week of piecing this is made with batiks and of course the pattern had a cutting error..so the seam ripper and I had a few words to say to each other.. but we worked it out. I am thinking seriously of machine quilting it. I have a friend that is willing to guide me and I have been doodling while on the phone at work sooo..please wish me luck

I will posting my mini's have done.. I am up to 4.. 2 are almost completed and 2 have to decide on the quilting...one blogger had a great idea on what to do with the Black and white rail fence and that is to use beading..what a grand idea Rose Marie

I am going to go over to the Yorkshire blog and update that one so you can see the wonderful display of mini's that other group members are bringing for our May 13th auction.
