I also finished piecing my second Winter top I found the pattern in Quiltmania 147 called the HOUR GLASS you can see it below with their gorgeous fabric. Honestly my quilt looks great on the bed! I will show you later

My mom and her quilting friends gave me this beautiful old quilt I am debating whether to repiece it I think it will be worth it. Love the fabrics this is old!

Good day! well I started putting the second quilt together. My inspiration came from the Quiltmania Magazine 147 I loved how the quilt looked in the mag. I started cutting and placing and had made some adjustments but was not happy due to value as you can see it is heavy in the middle.

So I conformed and went with the pattern they way they had it laid out. I was pleasantly appeased. They kinda look like wrapped candies and I went a little lighter with the blocks in the middle to divide the stripes on each side. Designing sometimes is the hold up, but I am getting there.

I also wanted to give a preview of how the oakleaf hydrangeas are happy in their new home new leaves are forming and now that fall is approaching they are changing into their fall colors this is very exciting to me!

these are the new ones that I have planted and their very happy as you can see new young leaves i just can't wait till next spring! This year I have really loved my garden at first the work was hard but I chipped away at it and I am happy, common Winter get it over with for the spring surprises to come
Meara has become quite happy with a good 15min cuddle then she goes on her merry way. Ted sleeps more and more in his own bed, the boy I fear has lost his hearing and shows signs of doggy dementia as well. Ted will be 14 this year. Time just keeps marching on.

Flimsy pile is growing

How can I get any work done with Meara is demanding some sweet love.

She finally gave up and I was able to complete this sweet basket by Border Creek Station as well as the cute little churn dash both are kits and patterns through Border Creek Love it to Pieces  (another part of the Churn Dash sew along with Chooky Blue you can go to her blog and see what others are doing)
I was also in a doll quilt swap and I was lucky enough to get this sweet basket quilt from the organizer! The fabric choices the workmanship and the precious hand quilting are perfect and just my cuppa.
I also fell in love with this gorgeous winter fabric it is with chalet, skis, snowshoes and just the complimentary fabric I have enough to make 2 wonderful cuddly quilts for honey and I this winter.

so as you can see I have been busy still working on some secret sewing and as well my other churn dash will post more about that piece a little later. I am debating to add some applique but still thinking on that. Designers dilemma I guess.

Hope you are enjoying the change in weather we are coming into fall which is perfect for me.

A sweet finish or 2

Its a wrap! literally! I had to bind it and posted what I use to hold my binding in place I thought everyone know this! I use hair clips that I have bought from the dollar store many years ago they were much cheaper then.
After binding I thought that the quilt looked too new so I had to do a coffee dye! it just added so much charm to the quilt. I also used the folded triangles on the corners
Also what little girl doesn't bring a quilt for her doll so I made a little carrying sachet to put her little quilt in. It will stay safe and she can also put her jammies in there.
I hope it meets the criteria of looking like yesteryears quilt. I did do a half feather quilting around the edges put its hard to tell with the design.

There is also another finish small but still it is a utility quilt for the fur kids. It was supposed to be for Ted he likes to dig the quilts into mounds so I gave him his own...or so I thought.
It seems that Mears feels she has equal shares. I am not able to show the whole quilt due to ownership, one day it will not have a body on it.
hope you are able to get some shelter from the heat, we are hoping for a little rain of course.
I am also hoping that the grass stops growing a little my lawn mower doesn't want to start and I am booked for service but as everything now we have to wait.

creating

Well I thought i was being smart on designing a little doll quilt as I was putting it together I was not thrilled so I slept on it
Sleeping on it, as you can see above, has lead to undoing the stitching and recreating something a little more simple. Don't worry these pieces will not be wasted i can use them for the signature block on the back.

I am also going to use 3 colors for quilting since I want the Redwork to be the showcase of the project.
I do hope that my partner to be, likes redwork and will like the quilting. There are some guidelines we are to use to make our doll quilt such as size, and fabrics we are to use. Also stipulates hand quilting.

I have great company as we sit on the porch and enjoy our Ontario skies it has been wonderful weather not so humid so I have been porch quilting.

Ted loves it on the porch and will stay here all day if allowed. He gets VERY disappointed if I step out and he is not able to come, but sometimes it is just to get the mail and he is not a courier lover.

Well back at it there is a deadline too.

hope you have time to slip in some stitches.

Summer just sizzling

I put my hand up for a doll quilt swap that was initiated by an Instagram group

there are requirements that I have to meet to go further so I am busy stitching this sweet redwork of Alice in Wonderland. I am changing the layout but this is the first part of my incentive.

the pattern is from one of the mini quilt mags I used to collect years ago and just so happy I have not parted with them they have really been a great reference tool.

I am also enjoying my Alice Oakleaf  Hydrangea. She is never a disappointment to me.

I noticed this morning will watering I need to weed as well. It has just been way way too hot I will do some in the morning.

I am still working on my big stitch quilting as well on Row 5! did slow a little bit due to the redwork deadline.

Hope you are staying safe and enjoying the weather can you believe it is past the middle of July already?

Time is just flying by!

Finished top!

Well I had a wonderful time with this quilt a long by Piecing the Past Quilts. She will have a new one soon if you want to sign up it is free the time that it is running after you will pay a nominal fee.

I used fabrics from my own fabric collection and made a few adjustments

The triangles in the pattern are the same as the background I knew that they would be touching the next border so changed them to match that border. I also doubled the border in doing so I had made it a little bigger, so this had a domino effect where now I didn't have enough of the background fabric.

That is okay, no worries I will find something else so a did a little digging well just so happens I had the same fabric line in a different design not much different and so I decided to add to each corner, kinda reminds me of the swede patches on the jacket elbows.

There is lots of open space to hand quilt a nice design but I think it will just be some cross hatching and some sperodic feathers here and there.

just to give you a few close ups. I had to hang it on the garage door to show it a bit. there is no room in my house to show the whole quilt!

I laid it on the bed and it fits just perfect with the quilting it will shrink of course and it will be wonderful.

I am happy and hope to do her next one. that is coming up fast stars with nine patches and lots of quilting space.

What makes this fun as well is working outside quilting on quilts and enjoying the weather at the same time.

Best advise today would be remember to take time for yourself.
